Tupendane Foundation and Initiatives (TUFOI) is pleased to share its 2024 Newsletter, celebrating a year of growth, impact, and community transformation across Usa River and surrounding communities.

Key highlights:

  • Education: 76 pupils sponsored at Bethlehem Star School (up from 11 in 2023) — school fees, uniforms, books, stationery, accommodation, and welfare support
  • Solar Power: Installed in Class Four and Class Seven — enabled evening study during outages, reduced electricity costs, and contributed to district ranking improvement from 7th to 5th place
  • Environment: 1,536 trees planted across Usa River, Ngabobo, Maji ya Chai, and Imbaseni wards in partnership with Tanzania Forest Service (TFS) — educating students and communities on climate change, soil conservation, biodiversity, and medicinal plants
  • Clean Cooking: Gas cooking appliances installed in school kitchen with support from Mati Super Brand Limited — reducing firewood use, promoting clean energy, improving food preparation efficiency, and creating a safer cooking environment

Story of Hope: Zawadi's Dream

At 10 years old, Zawadi from a vulnerable family in Usa River feared she would have to leave school. Through TUFOI's sponsorship program, she received school supplies, uniforms, and educational support. Now she studies with confidence, loves reading, and dreams of becoming a doctor. Her teachers describe her as hardworking, disciplined, and full of potential.

Looking ahead to 2025:

  • Expanding educational sponsorships
  • Promoting environmental conservation
  • Improving health and nutrition for schoolchildren
  • Supporting sustainable energy solutions
  • Strengthening community empowerment initiatives

Key partners include STEP Africa, Friends of Usa River Tanzania (Germany), GEMEINSAM (Germany), Akina (Germany), Passion Projects (Canada), Mati Super Brand Limited, and members and volunteers of Tupendane Foundation.
