Hybrid Learning Transforms Education at Bethlehem Star School

Access to quality learning resources and digital technology can transform a child's education and open doors to new opportunities. Through the Hybrid Learning Project at Bethlehem Star Pre & Primary School, supported by Akina e.V. of Germany and implemented through Tupendane Foundation and Initiatives (TUFOI), more than 540 pupils, including orphans and vulnerable children, have gained improved access to quality educational resources and digital learning.

The project combines traditional learning resources with modern technology to create a more engaging and inclusive learning environment.

The provision of curriculum-aligned textbooks, storybooks, and nine sets of analogue learning materials has strengthened foundational literacy and classroom participation. Students now have greater access to books that support reading, comprehension, vocabulary development, and independent learning.

At the same time, the project has introduced students to the digital world through a modern computer laboratory equipped with 26 computers and educational software, including MitzKits.

Stories of Change: A Child's Experience

My name is Amina, and I am a Grade 5 pupil at Bethlehem Star Pre & Primary School.

Before our school received new books and computers, learning was sometimes difficult. We shared a few old textbooks, and many of us could only imagine what we read about in class. I had never used a computer before, and I thought technology was only for children in big cities.

Everything changed when Akina e.V. of Germany, through TUFOI, supported our school with new curriculum textbooks, storybooks, learning materials, and a computer laboratory.

Now I have books that help me read every day. The storybooks have made me enjoy reading, and my English has improved because I learn new words from the stories.

During computer lessons, I have learned how to type, write documents in Microsoft Word, create simple presentations in PowerPoint, and use computers safely. We also have opportunities to learn about coding and robotics.

I discovered that computers are not only for typing or playing games. They can help us solve problems, explore ideas, and create new things.

I dream of becoming a doctor one day, and now I believe that dream is possible. The books help me understand my lessons, while the computers are preparing me for a future where technology is important.

I am very thankful to Akina e.V. and TUFOI for giving us the opportunity to learn and dream bigger.

A Teacher's Experience

My name is Mr. Joseph, and I teach at Bethlehem Star Pre & Primary School.

For many years, teaching was challenging because we had limited textbooks, very few storybooks, and outdated computers that could not support modern learning. It was difficult to provide every child with the quality education they deserved.

The support from Akina e.V. of Germany, implemented through TUFOI, has transformed our school.

The arrival of curriculum-aligned textbooks, storybooks, and analogue learning materials has strengthened our literacy lessons and made classroom teaching more engaging. Children are reading more confidently, participating actively in discussions, and showing greater curiosity during lessons.

The new computer laboratory has completely changed how we teach. After receiving training, I can confidently integrate digital learning into my lessons.

Our pupils are learning essential computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet safety, coding, and introductory robotics concepts. They are excited to learn, eager to explore new ideas, and better prepared for the demands of the modern world.

The Hybrid Learning Project has therefore improved more than access to educational materials. It has created new possibilities for children to become confident readers, creative thinkers, problem-solvers, and digitally capable learners.

By combining analogue learning resources with digital education, TUFOI and its partners are helping prepare children for secondary education, future employment, and participation in an increasingly digital economy.
