Sponsor a Child

Keep a child in school in Arusha, Tanzania — from pre-primary through to university.

Why it matters

School Is Free. Staying in It Is Not.

Many of the brightest children we meet come from families who simply cannot afford to keep them in school. Fees, uniforms, books, supplies, transport and meals add up quickly, and for a family surviving on a small farm or a single income those costs decide whether a child keeps learning or stops.

It is rarely ability that holds these children back. It is cost. A sponsor removes that obstacle and lets a child stay in a school where class sizes are smaller, teaching is stronger and results are better.

In 2025 TUFOI sponsored 116 pupils through school, investing TZS 131,192,845 in fees, transport, uniforms, learning materials and accommodation. Every figure we publish comes from our independently audited accounts. Read them

What Sponsorship Covers

  • School fees, where they apply
  • Uniform and shoes
  • Textbooks, exercise books and stationery
  • Transport to and from school
  • Meals during the school day
  • Examination fees
  • Boarding or accommodation, where needed

What It Costs

There is no fixed price. What a child needs depends on their age, their school, whether they board, and what their family can already manage. A primary pupil costs considerably less than a university student.

Each profile shows the amount that child needs for a year. Sponsorship can be paid monthly, termly or annually, and more than one sponsor can share a single child's costs.

If you would rather give what you can and let us match you, tell us your budget and we will find a child or student whose need fits it.

What happens next

How It Works

1

Get in touch

Choose a child from the profiles, or tell us your budget and let us match you.

2

We confirm the details

We send you the child's full profile, the school they attend, the exact costs for the year and how payment works.

3

Sponsorship begins

Fees, uniform and materials are paid directly to the school. Nothing passes through the family in cash.

4

You hear how they are doing

We send updates during the school year, including progress at school and photographs, with the family's permission.

5

You decide each year

Sponsorship runs a year at a time. You can continue, pause or stop, and we will tell you honestly what that means for the child so you can decide well.

How We Protect the Children

We publish only a first name, a photograph, a school year, a favourite subject and what a child hopes to become. We do not publish surnames, home villages, family circumstances or anything about a child's parents.

Many of the children we support live with one parent, a grandmother or an aunt, and several have lost a parent. Those circumstances are why they need help, and we share them with a sponsor privately once sponsorship begins — not on a public page where anyone can read them.
