At Bethlehem Star Pre & Primary School, sport has become another powerful way for children to learn, grow, and discover their potential. Through the support of Tupendane Foundation and Initiatives (TUFOI) and the contribution of volunteer Joshua from Germany, the school now has a dedicated tennis court where students can learn and enjoy the sport.
The initiative was supported through STEP Africa, which brought Joshua to Bethlehem Star School as a volunteer. His passion for tennis and commitment to working with young people helped introduce students to a sport that was previously unfamiliar to many of them.
The newly established tennis court has become an active space where students can develop their physical abilities while learning important values such as teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, perseverance, and confidence.

Joshua worked directly with students, patiently introducing them to the fundamentals of tennis. From basic footwork and positioning to racket control and swing techniques, students were given an opportunity to learn through practical coaching and regular practice.
“The tennis court is more than a place to play. It is a space where our children are learning confidence, discipline, teamwork, and the belief that they can achieve something new.”
The project has also created opportunities for students to develop healthy habits through physical activity. Regular participation in sport supports their physical well-being while providing an enjoyable break from classroom learning.
For many students, the tennis court has opened the door to a completely new experience. They can now learn a sport, practice with their classmates, challenge themselves, and develop skills that extend beyond the court.
TUFOI is grateful to Joshua and STEP Africa for their contribution and for helping bring this opportunity to Bethlehem Star School. Their support demonstrates how volunteering, partnership, and community investment can create meaningful and lasting opportunities for children.
The tennis court is now part of the school's broader commitment to developing well-rounded learners—children who are not only academically prepared but also physically active, confident, collaborative, and ready to take on new challenges.
