Computer Lab
In today’s world, information technology (IT) is a critical driver of development and success. Unfortunately, in Tanzania, many underprivileged students are unable to acquire essential computer skills due to the high cost of education and lack of access to resources.
Most schools in Tanzania — from Pre-Primary to Secondary — face severe challenges: either they do not have computers at all, or they have too few to meet the demand.
The Education Gap in Numbers
According to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST) 2020 Report:
- 18,152 Primary Schools serve 10,925,896 students.
- 5,143 Secondary Schools serve 2,473,506 students.
- Tanzania has more than 81 colleges.
Yet, 90% of these schools have no computer laboratory.
With an annual education sector growth rate of 5%, the need for digital education is only increasing.
TUFOI’s Solution: Smart Computer Lab Program
To bridge this gap, TUFOI is developing a Smart Computer Lab Project designed to integrate digital learning into Tanzania’s education system.
The Smart Computer Lab will include:
- E-Learning Platforms – for interactive digital learning.
- School Management Software – streamlining administration and reporting.
- Online Digital Books & Resources – reducing reliance on paper-based systems.
- Computing Infrastructure – providing reliable access to computers and networks.
- Other Learning Resources – ensuring schools are well-equipped for 21st-century education.
This program will help schools go paperless, enhance teaching and learning, and strengthen management systems.
Launching in 2026
In January 2026, TUFOI will re-launch its Smart Computer Lab Program in:
3 Ward Secondary Schools
1 Primary School
By the time students complete Grade 6, they will be proficient in basic computer programs—ensuring a strong foundation before they join secondary school.
This program directly supports Tanzania’s future workforce by preparing children with digital literacy and IT skills that are increasingly in demand worldwide.
