Every child in Tanzania has the fundamental right to elementary education, including children with disabilities. Tanzania is the one of the countries which ratifies the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), showing its strong commitment to upholding the rights of persons with disabilities and to ensuring that children with disabilities have access to inclusive, quality education.
In pursuance of this commitment, TUFOI launched the Accessible School Campaign known as “Make School Accessible to Children with Disabilities” to achieve universal accessibility for pupils with disabilities. Our main objective for this Campaign relates to built environment accessibility, including public and private schools, accessible and removing existing infrastructural and physical barriers.
TUFOI is expecting to construct a ramp at Bethlehem Star Pre and Primary school as a means of providing safe access to buildings for people of reduced mobility. This will cost TZS 15,000,000 which is equivalent to USD 6000. TUFOI invited both individual and organization to join this movement for making possible children with disabilities to access and enjoy their right to get education.
