From 116 Sponsored Pupils to a School Climbing the Rankings — 2025 in Review
This year was a turning point for our education sponsorship program at Bethlehem Star Pre & Primary School.
We started small. In 2022, TUFOI supported just 4 pupils. By 2025, that number had grown to 116 children—a milestone that reflects how much more support has become possible and how much need remains.
But sponsorship alone doesn't change a child's future. This year, we also brought clean water to the school through a new borehole (built with Akina e.V. of Germany), now serving 481 students and 34 staff, and installed a solar power system with Sopowerful (Netherlands) that keeps the lights on for evening study, water pumping, and everyday school operations.
The results are showing up where it matters most: the school rose from 5th to 3rd place in the district academic rankings.
And behind that number are real kids. Joyce Lang'ida started with a 22% average and struggled especially with numeracy—she scored 0% in one exam. With tutoring support, she finished the year at 89.5%. Neema Godson went from 20% to 83.9% after repeating a year with extra help. Erickson Emmanuel's grades improved once he joined the school's boarding program, where quiet evenings and structured study replaced a home environment that made homework hard to finish.
As our Executive Director, Edgar Walter, puts it, "Our results prove that educational sponsorship is not a passive handout—it's an active, evidence-backed catalyst for human development. When we pair child sponsorship with solar power, clean water, and dedicated teachers, the children do the rest."
There are still more children who need this kind of support than we currently have room to sponsor. If you'd like to help us reach more of them,
