Working with the Kitumusote Foundation and Mukuru Eco Tented Camp,
TUFOI raised and distributed 1,000 seedlings of disappearing indigenous
medicinal trees in Mukuru Village, Ngarenanyuki Ward, at a project cost
of TZS 1,000,000.
Why medicinal trees
Indigenous medicinal plants are disappearing from the landscape
around Usa River and Mukuru. They matter for community health, for
traditional knowledge, and for the biodiversity of the wider ecosystem.
Propagating and redistributing them addresses all three at once.
The distribution doubled as an educational programme. Community
members and school children took part, learning about biodiversity,
traditional medicine and sustainable conservation practice.
Working with people who know the ground
The Kitumusote Foundation and Mukuru Eco Tented Camp brought local
knowledge of which species to prioritise and where they would establish
successfully. That guidance shaped the project.
