PROJECT TITLE Modern Farming for Food Security Support to Public Primary School Children

CATEGORY / TAG Food Security · Mbinga District, Ruvuma Region, Tanzania · Fundraising Campaign

INTRODUCTION

Tupendane Foundation and Initiatives (TUFOI) is launching a 6-year sustainable modern farming project on 107 acres of land it already owns in Mbinga District, Ruvuma Region — one of Tanzania's most disadvantaged areas. The project will provide consistent, nutritious food to children in 8 public primary schools, where over 15,000 children currently attend class from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM every day with no food at all.

THE PROBLEM

More than 15,688 children are enrolled in public primary and secondary schools in Mbinga District. None of them receive meals at school. Most come from extremely poor families — many are orphans, children of single parents, or dependents of widows surviving on small-scale farming. Tanzania's free education policy does not include food provision, and local government cannot fill the gap. Children go hungry every school day, which directly harms their health, attendance, and ability to learn.

OUR SOLUTION

TUFOI owns 107 acres of fertile, water-rich land in Mbinga District — ready to be developed into a modern, irrigated farm. The project will grow food to supply 8 public primary schools in Amani Makoro Rural Ward, build dining halls, kitchens, and storage facilities at each school, and train children, parents, and teachers in sustainable farming practices. Surplus harvests will be sold to generate income and fund ongoing operations, making the project self-sustaining over time.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

Children's health, school attendance, and academic performance will improve. 8 public schools will receive regular, nutritious meals. Malnutrition and stunted growth among children will be reduced. Parents, teachers, and children will gain modern farming skills. School facilities — dining halls, kitchens, and toilets — will be built at each school. Surplus harvest sales will generate income for TUFOI to sustain and expand the program. The long-term vision is to feed every school in Mbinga District.

SUSTAINABILITY

The farm is owned by TUFOI and maintained by community members and staff. Surplus produce is sold each season to fund the next. Seeds are retained after each harvest to reduce recurring costs. A dedicated farm fund ensures financial continuity beyond the initial donor period.

The land is ready. The plan is set. All that is missing is the funding. Your donation will put food on the table for thousands of children in Mbinga District who currently go hungry every single school day.
