This project is for the rehabilitation of beds and river banks of Usa River and Ngoromiko river expected to cover 4 Km. Most of the rivers which are in the Arumeru district are highly degraded and their river banks are destroyed, there is sedimentation in the stream which causes flooding, destruction of infrastructures and loss of life on the lower side of the rivers.

TUFOI and its strategic partners are committed to have an effective environmental conservation by revitalizing the graded river banks. This project will plant about 2000 trees along the river banks. Planting trees is the most important activity in order to prevent soil erosion, reduce the surface water run-off, capture carbon dioxide, provide shade, help water retention among other benefits. Variety of riverine indigenous species will be used for the rehabilitation, TUFOI do not believe in monoculture as more species diversity makes the ecosystem to be more resilient.

Training of members of the community on environmental issues will be conducted in order to ensure the sustainability of the project.

We believe the areas surrounding the rehabilitated areas will later be attractive and become a habitat of many animal species like blue monkey, white colobus monkey and other mammals.
